Documentary filmmaking courses at Prague Film Institute are designed for filmmakers who need to handle multiple roles on real shoots. Documentary crews are rarely large — one person often covers several responsibilities at once. That’s why strong foundations across all filmmaking departments are essential. You’ll learn camera, sound, directing, editing and production basics, building the versatility every documentarian needs.
Alongside this all-round training, you’ll also have dedicated documentary classes, practical assignments and real documentary shoots. As your final film, you’ll create your own documentary project, putting all these skills into practice.

Develop strong foundations in camera, sound, directing, editing and production — essential because documentary crews are small and filmmakers often take on multiple roles.

Create documentary assignments throughout the course and gain hands-on experience capturing real subjects and real situations.
You don’t choose a specialisation yet. Everyone learns the same core filmmaking skills, which is especially valuable for future documentarians.

This course is not designed for aspiring documentarians. It focuses mainly on cinematography and camera-related training, with only minimal overlap with documentary practice.
Ideal for beginners who want a full filmmaking foundation, including cinematography. You shoot a final documentary film — your own or a classmate’s.
