Filmmaking Courses

Admissions for filmmaking courses at Prague Film Institute are open. Our filmmaking courses are hands-on, full-time, suitable also for beginners and taught in English in small groups on our campus in the historical centre of Prague, the Czech Republic. Every academic year you will have the opportunity to participate on set for up to 20 short films and scenes of different styles including 2 festival-worthy final films of your own which you can use for a high-quality showreel. Our best students will get a chance to have a filmmaking internship on a professional film set. The programs are accredited by Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic and UK qualification BTEC Higher Nationals.

Drone Cinematography

Underwater Camera

We will introduce you the world of professional underwater cinematography. You will get OWD diving certificate, learn underwater camera and shoot a breathtaking footage.

Action Scene Shooting

Learn from the best how to direct and shoot both action and fighting scenes. Master efficient stuntmen coordination. The teacher of this module is president of Czech Stunt and Fighters Association.

Film School Facilities

During the study of four ilmmaking courses, you will have access to high-end filmmaking equipment and a green screen and lighting studio located on our campus. Our equipment is available for you to use free of charge both during the classes and on your own final film projects and includes the most popular cinema cameras RED Gemini and RED Dragon, various camera accessories, lenses, lights, sound equipment, grip, production and mobile facilities (car Hyundai H1).

Cinematography - Camera

  • Principles of Camera and Lens Use in Cinematography
  • Safe Setup, Operation and Control of Cameras and Lenses
  • Activities and Responsabilities Associated with Different Roles in Camera Department
  • Presentation of Dailes/Rushes Demostrating the Use of Different Camera and Lens Combinations
  • Compositional Theory of CInematography

Cinematography - Lighting

  • Features of Lighting in Cinematography in Creating a Visual language
  • Safe Setup, Operation and Control of Lighting Equipment
  • Presentation of Dailies/Rushes Demonstrating Different Approaches to Lighting and Cinematography

Sound

  • Recording Sound on Location
  • Professional Sound Equipment
  • Sound Postproduction
  • Guidance by film practitioners 

Shooting of Film

You will shoot your own high production value final film in which you will go through all the phases of the film production from cinematographer’s point of view as follows:

  • Location Scouting
  • Casting
  • Production Design
  • Cooperation with Director
  • Shooting on the Film Set
  • Editing in Software Premise Pro / DaVinci Resolve 
  • Color Grading in DaVinci Resolve

Underwater Filmmaking

Within this optional module we will introduce you the world of professional underwater cinematography. You will get OWD diving certificate, learn underwater camera and shoot a breathtaking underwater footage.
